Don Porritt can be contacted on 01943 878 329, email or fax 01943 884141.
The studio is located on the edge of Wharfedale about 10 miles north-west of Leeds in West Yorkshire.
Don Porritt designs and produces modern silverware to individual commission or on a limited edition basis.
With a theme or item idenitfied as a starting point for the commission, a series of drawings and models are produced to indicate the designer's creative thoughts. These are then presented for appraisal and review, the exercise providing an essential interchange of ideas between client and designer before final approval to proceed with the commission is agreed. A preliminary design fee is charged for this stage of the commission.
Case studies of previous projects with examples of both preliminary designs and completed commissions are available as an introduction to the commissioning process
The copyright of the design and original artwork is retained by the designer - but no exact repeat copies of the commission will be produced without the clients permission. This ensures the creation of a unique, personal artefact – the result of a creative collaboration between designer and collector.
A representative body of work is held in the designers' personal collection and is available for exhibition. The collection includes jewels, domestic silverware, corporate and presenation pieces and sculpture. The collection has a strong support in original drawings, maquettes, models, photographs and a DVD that specifically explores how a creative artist works.
A well illustrated and flexible lecture is available which includes both slide and DVD presentation. Displays of original artwork along with representative pieces of silver, work in progress etc. can also be included.
Individual or small group visits can be arranged to the designers studio. Please contact Don to discuss arrangements.
Work is mainly represented in private or corporate collections and is exhibited on a regular basis in national and international venues.
A collection of silver items is on permanent display at Styles Silver, Hungerford, Berkshire.
